Commonwealth Continues Case in Murder Trial

The Commonwealth's case continued Tuesday in the murder trial of Karen Read, who is accused of running down Boston Police Officer John OKeefe and leaving him to die in a blizzard in the town of Canton on Jan. 20, 2022. Read is charged with motor vehicle homicide while under the influence of alcohol, leaving the scene of an accident causing death, and other charges.
One of the primary investigators of the homicide, Boston Police Detective James Sullivan, took the stand Tuesday and testified that Read had downed six vodka drinks at a bar in Canton before getting behind the wheel of her Jeep and striking OKeefe, who was walking home from work. Sullivan said that Read initially stopped her vehicle after the collision, but then drove off and left OKeefe to die in the snow.
